Area 3.14 - Interoperability, Test and Evaluation, Trials Support In order to ensure that the AN/SPS-48E radar set provides the warfighter with the Surface Ship Combat Systems capabilities required, rigorous test and evaluation of the system is required. When the Virginia Beach Detachment of the NSWC (Naval Surface Warfare Center) PHD (Port Hueneme Division) needed to perform system test and evaluation of the new upgraded Auxiliary Detection Processor, they chose Dot21 to accomplish this task. Dot21 uses a proven process in its approach test and evaluation. Early in the project, Dot21 establishes an independent verification and validation team. This team develops a test plan that identifies the resources required to conduct test activities and the methods used to verify system requirements. Detailed test procedures are produced and requirements are traced to specific tests. These procedures specify the types of data to be collected, the methods used to verify the data and the test evaluation criteria. Many complex software components cannot be sufficiently exercised during normal system operation. The test team is responsible for systematically examining system requirements and identifying these components. Simulation software is developed to ensure that these interactions are sufficiently exercised. Simulation software was utilized in the testing the BIT system in the ADP upgrade in order to exercise complex fault equations without inducing physical hardware faults. Dot21 identified several ADP software tests where engineering analysis was done on radar data after the test to validate system performance. Key tests took three man weeks to analyze. Dot21 implemented complex processing algorithms in a Matlab simulation to completely automate verification of proper operation of the ADP software, eliminating 120 hours of engineering labor every time these tests are run, and increasing the quantity of data actually analyzed by 2000%. Dot21 successfully conducted test and evaluation of the ADP. Anomalies were noted in the test report and entered into the defect-tracking database. Dot21 conducted AN/SPS-48E (V) Field Change 15 and SSDS interoperability testing during December of 2003. Dot21 advised the Navy of the need to test the system in an operational environment and with the Ship's Self Defense System software baseline. This testing was conducted on-board the USS John F. Kennedy and aided in successful certification of the new Auxiliary Data Processor. This work was supported under contract N63394-02-D-3106. TSC AEGIS System Engineering experience includes AN/SPY-1 Radar Operations Support. TSC is directly involved in the operational testing of the AEGIS Weapon System (AWS). TSC has many years of experience in analyzing sensor system data. TSC has tools for the extraction, reduction, and analysis of data collected from various sensors. These tools and experience can be applied as necessary to other programs. TSC established a T&E Team for the USMC Composite Tracking Network program. TSC coordinates testing with the Marine Corps, developed the Test and Evaluation Master Plan, organized test events, assists with the analyzing of data, and coordinates a 12-person test and evaluation team. Contracts supporting this work include GS-23F-0032L, N00024-96-C-5166 and N00164-01-D-0039. |
