As a subcontractor to Northrop Grumman, Dot21 Real-Time Systems, Inc. rehosted
the AN/SPS-48E radar Auxiliary Detection Processor (ADP) application software
on new computing hardware. The ADP performs a variety of radar signal processing
tasks as an adjunct to the original radar set. This processing includes improved
Doppler velocity estimation algorithms, range unfolding and velocity unfolding
of staggered pulsed Doppler waveforms, and adaptive clutter mapping.
To rehost the application software, Dot21 Real-Time Systems updated the existing
publish-subscribe middleware to accommodate communications between new PowerPC-based
single board computers on the VMEbus interface. During this process, Dot21 Real-Time
Systems also identified and corrected numerous bugs in the in the code for various
algorithms and improved the usefulness of the data extraction and analysis tools
that support the system.
This task required that Dot21 Real-Time Systems possess a thorough knowledge
of the radar signal processing algorithms in the ADP to successfully field test
system performance after the software had been moved to the new hardware. Successful
completion of this project has led to significant follow-on work related to the
AN/SPS-48E radar including maintenance and tactical display development and additional
enhancements to data analysis tools.
