"Dot21 has proved to be one of the best software technology partners I've had during my more than 20 years in the embedded systems business. They know their business and they stand behind their work."

Legacy Radar and Signal Processing System Upgrades

Dot21 specializes in upgrading mission-critical systems. Upgrading a legacy system requires a variety of specialized expertise: systems engineering, real-time programming, signal processing expertise, middleware integration, and real experience in building turn-key systems. Dot21 has extensive experience with upgrades to the AN/SPS-48E radar, including a complete plug-and-play replacement of the ADP (Auxiliary Data Processor) which retains all of the legacy fiber-optic and NTDS interfaces. We also developed Java maintenance and tactical displays for this radar. To test the signal processing algorithms, we developed Matlab implementations of the algorithms.

Turn-key embedded systems development

Booch, Jacobson, Rumbaugh. The Unified Modeling Language User Guide

Dot21 was founded to commercialize advanced system development processes and techniques developed at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory: publish-subscribe middleware-based system architecture, spiral development based on the Rational Unified Process, as well as data analysis and reduction tools.

Our experience with middleware includes products based on the open DDS (Data Distribution Service) standard and the APL CGAI (Common Genealogy Architecture Infrastructure) used in programs like SSDS (Ship Self-Defense System). Dot21's data analysis tools can drastically reduce the amount of effort involved in system development, integration, and testing.

Open Architecture Consulting

Dot21 is applying the standards and principles of the US Navy's Open Architecture initiative today! Our radar display has been integrated with the NDDS (Network Data Distribution Service) publish-subscribe middleware from RTI (Real-Time Innovations) and we have experience developing software for the Posix-conformant LynxOS operating system from Lynuxworks .

Based on our experience, we can help you decide how best to realize substantial benefits,by applying the US Navy's OACE (Open Architecture Computing Environment) specifications to your program.

Custom Java Displays

Using modern OO (Object Oriented) tools and techniques, Dot21 can develop dynamic Java displays to fit your requirements. We can integrate the displays with embedded real-time systems and middleware. Our radar display is now OACE (Open Architecture Computing Environment) Level 3 compliant! (see story).
