Publish/Subscribe Middleware and
Data Analysis/Reduction Tools
Dot21's middleware is an enhanced version of the message-oriented middleware currently used in Navy programs such as Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC), SPS-48E Auxiliary Detection Processor (ADP), and Ship Self-Defense (SSDS). Our message-oriented middleware reduces time to market for systems utilizing inter-processor communications by providing a solution that works across various interconnect technologies such as TCP/IP and the VMEbus and which can easily be ported to new platforms. Publish/Subscribe Middleware The basic premise of publish/subscribe middleware is that the sending and receiving applications do not need to know any information about each other. When a receiving application wants to begin receiving message of a particular label (type), the receiving application simply makes a call to register for that message label. The application that is generating messages with a particular label simply sends the message without worrying about the destination. The middleware delivers the message to all of the destinations that have subscribed to that message label. Data Extract and Data Reduction A major benefit of using our publish/subscribe middleware is that we have data analysis tools available to help the application developers get a handle on how the system is performing. The current data extract capability can record time tagged messages to a disk or tape. Our data analysis tool can be used to sort through those messages and produce a variety of data products. The data products include sorted listings of the messages (in custom output format), histograms, and graphical plots.
